Nanaimo Smiles and Dr. Nadia Stymiest are pleased to offer both cosmetic and therapeutic botox injections in Nanaimo, BC.

Looking for a botox provider in Nanaimo, BC? Look no further than your dentist office! Nanaimo Smiles and Dr. Nadia Stymiest are pleased to offer both cosmetic and therapeutic in our new Nanaimo office.

Over the last decade the popularity of botox and other cosmetic injections has boomed as the stigma surrounding them has faded. With many providers taking a more preventive approach, it is likely a few people in your circles are already embracing the anti-aging treatment. At Nanaimo Smiles, we also embrace therapeutic botox right alongside cosmetic botox to help treat teeth grinding, migraines and a variety of other concerns.

Our Nanaimo office opens December 1, 2022 and we are excited to welcome new patients for botox treatments, teeth whitening, veneers Invisalign and general oral health treatments.

Are BC dentists qualified to administer botox injections?

Yes! In British Columbia the only people qualified to administer botox are dentists, physicians and registered nurses who have also obtained training and certifications for safely administering neuromodulators. Dr. Nadia Stymiest received her additional training from the Pacific Training Institute for Facial Aesthetics and Therapeutics (PTIFA).

How does botox work?

Neuromodulators, most commonly referred to as botox, temporarily block certain chemical signals from nerves that cause muscles to contract. By strategically injecting areas of concern, this allows botox to release tension and soften the appearance of wrinkles.

What is the difference between cosmetic and therapeutic botox?

When it comes to cosmetic and therapeutic botox, almost everything besides the desired result is the same. Cosmetic botox aims to achieve a certain appearance (diminished wrinkles), while therapeutic botox aims to achieve a certain functionality, such as reduced teeth grinding. Both cosmetic and therapeutic botox treatments are approved by Health Canada and the FDA.

What is cosmetic botox used for?

Cosmetic botox is used to relax the muscles that create creases and wrinkles over time. The most common areas for cosmetic botox are:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet

What is therapeutic botox used for?

Therapeutic botox injections can be used to treat a wide variety of concerns including:

  • Migraines and headaches
  • Neck pain
  • TMJ disorder
  • Teeth grinding
  • Jaw clenching
  • Trigger points (muscle pain)
  • Shoulder and back pain
  • Muscle spasms
  • Excessive sweating

How long do botox results last?

Botox results typically last three to four months; however, this highly depends on the individual. Those exercising more and with a higher metabolism, may find their botox results wear slightly faster than those who live a more sedentary life.

How much is botox in Nanaimo, BC?

The number of units required highly depends on the individual. Age, metabolism, muscle strength and the desired treatment area all play a role in determining the appropriate number of units needed for the best results.

During your complimentary consultation Dr. Nadia Stymiest will assess and provide a more accurate number of units (and cost estimate), and then you choose to go ahead with the treatment. When it comes to your body, we believe it is your decision and aim to inform you as much as possible to enable you to make the right choice for you. We adhere to a strict zero pressure rule when it comes to cosmetic and therapeutic injections. That being said, to treat specific areas, there are minimum guidelines that must be followed in order to achieve any results. The following outlines the average number of units per area as per recommended by Botox and comparable brands.

Crow’s Feet – 12 units per eye
Glabellar Lines – 20 units
Forehead Lines – 20 units
Nasalis – 8 units
Upper lip Lines: 6 units
Marionette Lines: 6 units
Gummy Smile: 4 units

Depending on muscle strength more or less units may be required. Generally, men require a greater number of units as they tend to have stronger facial muscles. When choosing the right cosmetic injection provider for you, it’s important to base your decision on their experience, expertise and communication with you as the patient over the price per unit.

How much is botox in Nanaimo, BC?

In 2022, the price of Botox® (and its equivalent brands such as Dysport®, Xeomin and Nuceiva) range an average of $8 to $18 per unit in the Vancouver and Vancouver Island area. Dr. Nadia Stymiest offers botox injections for $10 per unit in her Nanaimo Smiles and Ladysmith Smiles offices. This price is subject to change—contact our team at 250-591-6000 for the most up-to-date, accurate information.

How soon will I see my botox results?

Your optimal results from botox treatments in Nanaimo will be seen (and experienced for therapeutic cases) two weeks after your treatment. Most patients see muscle movement beginning to stall (and wrinkles beginning to fade) within the first three days. We recommend scheduling botox treatments a minimum of three weeks before any important events, such as weddings.
