Meet Your Nanaimo Dentist: Dr. Nadia Stymiest
Dr. Stymiest, founder of Nanaimo Smiles and Ladysmith Smiles, has been practicing as a general dentist and serving the Nanaimo area since 2013. In October 2021, Dr. Stymiest established her first practice (Ladysmith Smiles) at 225 High Street, Ladysmith BC. In order to accommodate her growing patient list, Dr. Stymiest quickly began work on building a second location (Nanaimo Smiles), which officially opened its doors in January 2023 at 2700 Norwell Drive, Nanaimo BC.
With five dentists across two locations and a growing team of hygienists, it is Dr. Stymiest’s hope that dental care can be accessible to patients without the long wait times often accepted in the industry. Dr. Stymiest’s practice includes all aspects of dental care, with a particular passion for oral surgery, pediatrics and restorative dentistry.
After graduating from Boston University, Dr. Stymiest moved to the island where she has continued her education by investing in courses such as Invisalign, Nitrous Oxide Sedation, and botox. Dr. Stymiest’s work in dentistry has been recognized and awarded throughout her career. The following are just some of her recognitions:

Despite her busy schedule managing two dental practices and chasing around her two kids, Dr. Stymiest continues to make time for volunteering and community outreach. She has worked closely with Vancouver Island University’s Dental Program since 2014 and continues to guest lecture to mentor the next generation of dental professionals.
Dr. Stymiest’s patients often describe her as bubbly and caring, and make note of her corny jokes and puns. She loves to laugh and believes the cheesier the joke, the better—so always feel encouraged to share your best material! Above all else, Dr. Stymiest is on a mission to make excellent dental care accessible to every smile in our community and that means continuously cultivating an environment where patients feel at home, a place where they always are treated like family.

When designing Nanaimo Smiles, Dr. Stymiest wanted to create a bright, welcoming space that could help patients feel at home. As many individuals suffer from anxiety when it comes to visiting the dentist, the colours and fabrics chosen are calming and simplistic. With large windows in our spacious waiting room and operatories, Nanaimo Smiles feels bright even on Nanaimo’s notoriously rainy days. Our dentists believe in providing an atmosphere where patients feel confident and comfortable with their dental care.

As Nanaimo Smiles is a new dental clinic in a new Nanaimo building, everything was able to be hand-chosen, including the state-of-the-art equipment. It was important to Dr. Stymiest to choose equipment for her Nanaimo dental clinic that is both effective and eco-friendly. From implementing an eco-friendly sterilization station, which eliminates the need for disposables, to opting for the iTero 3D scanner, which eliminates the need for impression materials, Dr. Stymiest has made every effort to ensure her dental practice is simultaneously healthy for the earth and her patients. Nanaimo Smiles has also implemented advanced technology such as a portable handheld x-ray machine, which makes it possible for our team to stay in the room with patients.

Additional Comforts
When you enter our Nanaimo dental clinic, you’ll be welcomed by a large, bright waiting room , light oak reception desk and of course, the smiles of our wonderful front desk team. Once checked in, take your pick of any of our comfortable chairs, browse the waiting room, books or games for all ages—those of you who have already visited will understand the fun and anticipation of the toothy alligator! There is a spacious gender neutral bathroom just off the waiting room for convenient access. When it’s time for your appointment, our team will come and greet you in the waiting room before bringing you back to the operatory.
At Nanaimo Smiles we believe that going to the dentist can be an enjoyable, and dare we say it, fun experience. Our dental operatories are complete with ceiling-mounted televisions and Netflix so that patients of all ages can enjoy their Nanaimo dentist visit. For patients who suffer from dental anxiety, watching their favorite show is a welcomed distraction. Dr. Stymiest and Dr. Bligh also offer Nitrous Oxide Sedation, commonly known as laughing gas, to enhance patient comfort.
